Skeleton AvailabilityBecause of the number of requests we receive for complete skeletons, and because of the extremely low availability of such specimens, it is strongly advised that you make use of our wish list for this item. Whenever we receive a skeleton, it is offered to customers on our wish list before being made available for general sale. As a result, most of our skeletons are sold immediately. Please note that not all skeletons can be shipped to all locations. Please check with us before ordering. |

Skeleton Types and SourcesThere are three primary sources of human skeletons. Our best specimens are skeletons imported from India during the 1970s for medical and educational use. These are very slender skeletons with lovely color and bone quality, but they have become increasingly difficult to acquire. We purchase these skeletons from private collectors, museums, estates, etc. Depending on their previous use, they may show varying degrees of wear. We receive a handful of these each year. Occasionally we receive antique American or European skeletons. These are generally larger skeletons, and are articulated in an older style that often retains cartilage and uses felt padding in the vertebral column. Most of these skeletons date to the mid 19th century. Our newest source of skeletons is China. Because these skeletons are generally exhumed rather than cleaned while fresh, bone quality suffers slightly--resulting in a more porous texture and slight discoloration. On the other hand, these are large, very robust skeletons. We have recently begun having these skeletons articulated in Canada, using modern hardware. Overall, skeletons are not abundant in our stock, and we often cannot match very strict customer requests with an appropriate specimen. There is no skeleton "factory" to call-up and order from. Rather, we acquire skeletons through an informal network of sellers and a great deal of luck, detective work, and experience. In short, it is perfectly legal to posses and sell human bones in the United States. There are a few exceptions and adendums to this including a few states where import and export has been banned, and of course, that only certain human bones from particular places can be bought & sold legally.
