Fossil Casts

Fossil Casts

Fossils are rare creations - just the right combination of chance, geology, and good fortune are required for a fossil to come to light. While The Bone Room sells the real thing, sometimes a cast or model is a better choice. Casts and models allow you to experience some of paleontology's most important finds, and are well-suited to classroom handling. We carry a variety of fossil casts and models. Other specimens may be available by special order, please contact us with your request.

Dinosaur Skull Models

Dinosaur skull models differ from true casts in that often there is no complete specimen to make a cast from! Instead, skilled artists prepare a model based on numerous partial fossils. This allows them to fill in missing areas and to reconstruct badly crushed fossils. The result are three-dimensional representations of some truly wonderful species.

Dinosaur Tooth and Claw Casts and Models

Tooth and Claw casts are typically based on the largest and most spectacular specimens available - and so give a good idea of the power of many predatory species. Casts are based on a single specimen and share all the flaws and idiosyncracies that entails. Models are based on artistic reconstructions or composite specimens and are often used when no complete specimen is available.

Mammal Fossil Casts

Dinosaurs were not the only creatures to rule the earth before our time. Large mammals - many reminiscent of animals living today - are found in the upper levels of the fossil record. Most of the truly spectacular mammals date to the Pleistocene, 1.8 million to 10,000 years ago.

Please Read Before Ordering

Please make sure you check the entire Family sub-section when selecting an animal or hominid cast as often more than one company makes a cast of the same species or fossil and the price and quality can vary.

Please note that with the exception of some human and primate casts, which may vary, we are no longer stocking casts in the store. This just means that your choice will require an additional one to two weeks to ship, depending on cast availability.

We apologize, but prices may fluctute by as much as 5% from what they are listed as on the website at any given time. These increses are directly dependent upon the increases of the source company and usually only happen once a year.
