Fossil Orthoceras
Orthoceras sp. (Devonian (417 - 354 mya), Morocco)
Orthoceras were a close relative of ancient ammonites and modern nautiloids. But instead of having a coiled shell, orthoceras have a straight shell. These polished fossil specimens are from larger slabs that come from the Sahara desert of Morocco in the Tegana formation near Kimkim. While the fossil animals themselves are gray in color, the surrounding matrix is a deep gray, creating a lovely color contrast.

Fossil Crinoids
Various sp. (Various eras, Various localities)
Crinoids are a still extant group of strange marine mammals that resemble plants. Their fossil record dates back to the Ordovician, and though a few hundred species are still around, there were many more in both species and relative numbers in the earth's history. Arguably, Crinoids make make one of the most beautiful fossils in color and form. The large deep red slabs that we get in resemble 3d watercolors, while the smaller limestone specimens are akin to tiny, amazingly details relief statues.
