Trilobites

Trilobites thrived worlwide from the Cambrian Period (600 million years ago) through the Permian (230 million years ago). They were marine arthropods and are considered to be a likely ancestor of modern insects. In fact, they look a bit like sowbugs, if sowbugs could get to be a foot and a half long! Trilobites range from the very small to the very large, and some species are covered in astonishing spikes and projections.
