The Bone Room is a dynamic place, and we'd like to keep you on top of things. Check here for sale announcements, special events details, and glimpses of our newest products.

Freeze Dried Specimens

Freeze-drying is an animal preservation technique that provides a viable alternative to traditional taxidermy, and can in many cases can provide superior results. Freeze drying preserves the entire animal rather than simply stretching the preserved skin over a frame, and the results can be extremely lifelike. The Bone Room recently has begun working with a new freeze dryer, and these charming tortoises are the result! Shown are two baby spur-thigh and three juvenile leopard tortoises that are now available to a good home.

The Bone Room On You Tube

The Bone Room has continued on its silver screen quest to bring our culture into your home. We have now started what we hope will be a series of DIY short videos on YouTube informing you, the public, on how to create your own individualized pieces of some of our stock.
The first short, available to watch below, features our very own Assistant Manager At Large: Erin, who takes us on an overview of the process of turning your 'late' (high maintenance) companion into articulated skeleton or "The Perfect Pet".

Capybaras!

The worlds largest rodent, the capybara, has finally made its way to The Bone Room! These amazing skulls are arriving in droves and will be ready for purchase by a nurturing home soon.

Camel Time

We've recently come into a cashe of Dromedus (one-humped) camel skulls! Some are a bit imperfect (a few missing teeth, and/or slight bone damage), but the prices and charachter of the specimens are impossible to beat. See our Camelus Dromedus and other fabulous available mammal skulls here.

A Bevy of Bats

Our budget bat skeleton has always been a favorite here at The Bone Room, and now they're on sale! Get this and all of our budget skeletons at their new reduced price while it lasts!
As promised, we also now have our bat skeletons or whole bats available encased in lucite! These genuine specimens can be safely handled by curious hands, or simply decorate your desk. View the skeleton and other skeletons in lucite here. And view the whole bat encased in lucite and other preserved speciments here.

Trilobites

Since we know you love 'em, we've decided to give trilobites their own special place on our website, starting with a few choice specimens. We'll add new specimens as we photograph them. Until then, browse our favorite here.

DIY Shadow Box Frames

We are now carrying empty shadow box frames -- these are the same frames used in our Shadow Box Framed Insects. Frames are composed of stylish, wood-free, black plastic, with a glass front and pre-attached hanger. See available sizes and prices here.

Sea Shells

We have added a sea shell section to our we site. Click here to view our selection of everything from abalone to seastars.

Maceration Instructions

By popular requests, we have added an Adobe PDF handout with instructions for cleaning a skull or bones using maceration. We plan to have a similar handout for cleaning using dermestid beetles soon. Download the handout here.

Butterfly Sweeps

We have finally added our popular butterfly sweeps to our website. These colorful works of art have been pleasing our in-store customers for many years. View a selection of sweeps for all budgets here.
