Media CoverageWe may be a neighborhood shop, but The Bone Room is looking forward to many media moments this year. Last week, Mislav Zelle of RTL- Croatia visited The Bone Room during a tour of the United States. The Bone Room will be sandwiched between an interview of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and a visit to NASA Ames Research Center. With 29 stations serving more than 170 million viewers, RTL- Group is Europe's largest producer of television and radio programming. The Luxembourg-based group operates TV channels in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, UK, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Hungary and Croatia. With such wide coverage, you'll be able to visit The Bone Room even when you're travelling! Closer to home, we recently welcomed the crew of Mythbusters to our shop to film a segment for their upcoming "Buster Special". Watch the Discovery channel on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at 9:00 PM PST / EST to see our human bones put to creative use as hosts Adam and Jamie go about rebuilding their loyal test-dummy. People always ask what our customers do with human bones, and here's one crushing answer! We've also added a new section to our website in order to archive information regarding our media appearances. Visit the Press Room to enjoy our recurring fifteen minutes of fame, even if you missed them the first time around! Human Bone NewsAfter a long and frustrating drought, we are happy to once again have real bone human femurs! As the largest bone in the human body, femurs have always been in high demand among our customers. We recommend that those of you who have been femur-hunting contact us now. Past experience tells us that these will sell fast. The majority of these femurs are A2 quality (exhibiting slight erosion or other surface marking) and are priced at $50. In other news, we have updated our Human Bones webpage to reflect our new prices for 2005. While we have been selling many bones at a 25% discount over the past years, we unfortunately have had to return to our pre-sale prices as our original sale stock is depleted and human bones become more difficult to acquire. While the majority of our bones have returned to their regular price, we are still offering discounts on fibulas, radius/ulna pairs, A2 and A3 mandibles, and damaged tibias. We will soon have a print version of our human bone pricelist available. Please email us if you or your organization would like to receive one. Please note that this is not a general pricelist, but covers only our human bone material. Fossil Season - Make Your Requests Now!February is fossil season for The Bone Room, as we travel to trade shows and acquire exciting new stock! Our new selection of fossils will arrive mid-February, but for those of you with special requests, now is the time to act. Ron Cauble and manager Di are currently selecting fossils for our shop, and admiring unique fossils that just might fulfill your wishes. If you have requests for rare or unusual fossils, please contact us and we will try and fill your request. Newly Prepped Fossils
In readiness for our latest fossil show, our skilled fossil artisans have been working hard to prepare and restore new specimens for their show debuts. Recently completed are a magnificent Chinese fossil Sbear, Indarctos lagrelli (above left), and a fine example of a small Chinese saber-cat, Metailurus minor (above right). If not sold at the show, these skulls will soon be joining our other prize fossils on our New Fossil Page. But for now, pictures and prices are available by request. Body WorldsAfter a successful trip to Los Angeles to view Body Worlds 1, Ron, Di, and Lori would like to encourage everyone who missed the original to see its successor - Body Worlds 2. Body Worlds 2 will run from Jan. 29 - Mar. 27 at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. For tickets and general visiting information, visit the CSC website. Body Worlds 1 will be showing at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry from Feb 4 - Sept 5. Tickets are available on the MSI website. The L.A. show was amazingly popular, so we suspect it may start popping up at a science museum near you. Ron gives it three thumbs up.......a must see. For general information on either exhibit, visit the Bodyworlds english-language website. Propitious BirthdaysFebruary is Curator Ron's favorite month since two gentleman dear to him have a birthday February 12th, although 131 years apart......Charles Darwin and himself. If the fancy strikes you, congratulate Ron, since old age is scary, or in lieu of that, buy a Darwin Sticker for your car, since Darwin needs all the good publicity he can get.
