Insect Season

Spring is upon The Bone Room, and we all know what that means. Insects! We are in prime insect-hunting season, so order your collecting supplies and get out there. Visit http://www.boneroom.com/insects/supplies.html to peruse our full line of collecting supplies, including nets, pins, and storage boxes.

To further assist our local customers in discovering the six-legged beasties in their own backyard, we have some new field guides available. We have the classic Peterson Field Guide: Insects, and for the newcomer we have both Insects and Butterflies and Moths from the Peterson First Guides Series. For the younger set we have Insects of Northern California, a very informative introduction to our most common local insects. And for the dragonfly fanatic, we now carry Common Dragonflies of California: A Beginner's Pocket Guide. These books and more can be found at in our book section.

Return of the Jumping Bean

After more than a year's wait, we once again have Mexican Jumping Beans! The 2004 crop of jumping beans was lost to a blight, but fortunately this year is one of the strongest crops yet. Beans are $0.25 each or $1.50 for a clear box of three. Unfortunately, we can't ship jumping beans. But if you're in our neighborhood, stop by and pick up a box or two.

  • Jumping Beans, $0.25 each
  • Three Beans in a Box, $1.50

Los Angeles Insect Fair

The Bone Room will once again be a vendor at the 19th Annual Bug Fair, to take place at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County on Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22. We will have a selection of our framed insects available for sale, as well as our ever-popular jumping beans. The Bug Fair is a kid-friendly event that all insect lovers will appreciate. Visit http://www.nhm.org for more information.

If you can't make it to the Bug Fair, you can still view our Insect selection by visiting our insect page.

New Primate Skulls - Vervets

After a long and painful period without, we once again have monkey skulls available! The Vervet is an affordable example of an old world monkey. These lively African primates live in large social groups throughout Northeast Africa, but are also found in laboratories and animal research stations around the world. We have both adult and juvenile skulls available with complete dentition. These won't last long.

  • Male Vervet Skull (Chlorocebus aethiops), $150 each
  • Female Vervet Skull (Chlorocebus aethiops), $125 each
