Ravens are remarkably intelligent birds that have been observed using tools, solving multi-step puzzles, and even playing games like sliding down snowy hills just for fun. These glossy black tricksters can live up to 20 years in the wild and have been known to hold "grudges" against specific humans who have wronged them, sometimes dive-bombing the offender years later while mysteriously leaving their friends and family completely alone. Perhaps most delightfully absurd, ravens can learn to mimic human speech even better than some parrots, leading to the occasional bewildering forest encounter where hikers hear a perfectly clear "Hello there!" echoing from the treetops, only to discover their greeter is a bird who's been eavesdropping on trail conversations and practicing his social skills.
