In the ancient forests of the ice age, there lived a particularly unfortunate saber-toothed cat whose magnificent fangs had grown so absurdly long that they curved all the way down to his toes. While his fellow predators could pounce gracefully through the underbrush, poor Clarence had to high-step through the forest like a prehistoric marching band leader, carefully lifting each paw to avoid tripping over his own dental excess. His hunting technique had evolved into an elaborate game of limbo, where he would slowly lower his head toward unsuspecting prey while his saber teeth acted like gleaming white warning flags, giving every small mammal in the vicinity plenty of time to scamper to safety. The other saber-tooths eventually stopped inviting him on group hunts, not out of cruelty, but because his approach was so comically obvious that even the sleepiest ground sloths could spot him coming from three valleys away.
