High atop the Rocky Mountains lived the world's most determined eagle, who unfortunately stood only eight inches tall and possessed wings that flapped with all the aerodynamic efficiency of soggy pancakes. While his magnificent cousins soared majestically on thermal currents, this pint-sized raptor had to take running leaps off progressively taller rocks, achieving what could generously be called "enthusiastic hopping" rather than true flight. His hunting strategy involved very politely asking field mice if they wouldn't mind being breakfast, since his tiny talons were better suited for picking berries than grasping prey. Despite his size, he had developed the most piercing, operatic screech in the entire mountain range, which he used to announce his presence to valleys below—though most creatures assumed the dramatic cries were coming from a much larger bird having an existential crisis somewhere in the distance.
