​Moldavite is a deep green tektite formed by a meteorite impact that occurred about 15 million years ago, probably in southern Germany. Moldavite is found throughout Central Europe but the country formerly known as Czechoslovakia is the area most famous as a source for this jewelry-worthy silica-based stone.
