  • Cylinder seals and Disk from Mesopotamia and Persia
Cylinder seals were used for hundreds of years throughout the Middle East...they were carried or worn, probably around the neck, and to impress your seal in clay or wax was like signing your name. These detailed embossed cylinders were also used to create art  and to decorate walls, with the repeating images telling stories of the hunt, or valor in battle, or meetings with kings and gods. Carved from semi precious stone or formed from metal, these solid little pieces of history have survived for thousands of years.  From Mesopotamia and Persia, they date back to 2,000 - 700 BC.
