Chlamyphorus truncatus

1.5" x 1.0" x 0.75"

The pink fairy armadillo lives in the dry grasslands and sandy plains of Central Argentina. The smallest of the armadillos, it may reach lengths, including its tail, of 6 inches. Unique among armadillos, its shell is almost separate from the rest of the body. The shell is anchored in the front above the eyes, and in the rear it is attached to the pelvic bones. Along the back of the body, the shell is connected by only a thin ridge of flesh. Its legs, underbelly and the visible skin under the shell are covered with white hair. A very adept burrower, it buries itself when threatened. 2-part skull (separate cranium & jaw).
