The African porcupine is unrelated to the American porcupine - they each developed their excellent defense mechanism of stiffened, sharpened hairs on their own. The American quills are barbed, making them really quite a horrible weapon; the African porcupine actually secretes an antibiotic on the tips of its quills - very thoughtful.
Our African quills come in two size ranges: large are 7"-9", small are 4"-5".
